Home Page is on the Web

For you cybernauts out there, we've finally got our web page up and running. The address is: http://mamouplayboys.html. It features photographs, biographies, a tour schedule, quotes from critics, and profiles of each album, complete with color graphics. There is also a format for browsers to send comments to the band. There have been some interesting responses.Perhaps the best was from Australia. Andrew Le Blanc mentions they have been having dances in the city of Melbourne. Apparently he has been listening to the Mamou Playboys for years. There have also been responses from far away places like Ireland and Hawaii. A big thanks to Boisy Pitre who designed the page, and also to Rounder Records for providing the computer space.

Best Cajun Group 1995
So says the Big Easy Entertainment Awards, which were held April 22 at the Orpheum Theatre in New Orleans. David, Jimmy and Peter were on hand for the victory strut to the stage and the acceptance speech. Backstage they were congratulated by the Neville Brothers and New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial, amongst others. It was a glamourous affair, indeed and a great thrill, after two previous nominations, to actually win.

March California Trip

Despite a dizzying array of logistical problems, surprises and just bad luck, the trip to California went well. Especially memorable was the Powerhouse Brewing Company in Sebastopol, CA, perhaps the best gig of the year, so far. This show was sold out two weeks in advance, and featured the finest sounding drums and amps we've ever played. Another thrill was meeting Tom Waits who remained the entire evening listening to the band. One thing is for sure, California still has most active and enviable Cajun & zydeco dance scene in the country (a very close second to Louisiana).

Where's CC's Tooth?
Contrary to the front page report in the Times-Picayune, Steve knew well that the gold tooth he found on stage at Jazz Fest was fake, and he guessed it belonged to Adcock (who on the same stage earlier in the day had lost it...the tooth that is). Steve thew it to the crowd, which the press found interesting. According to one radio station, CC is still on a liquid diet. Coincidently, the lucky fest-goer who caught the tooth in question was rumored to be none other than Bill Bradt, proprietor of the above-mentioned Powerhouse Brewing Company!

-Sincerely, The Mamou Playboys
