Secret gigs at Randol's Restaurant...
Come see us in Lafayette in December for three Tuesday dates at
Randol's!
European Tour Nears...
We will be gone for a good chunk of January, starting in Scotland
with the Celtic Connections Festival in Glascow, followed by a
third trip to England for five gigs. We're especially excited
about going to Holland and Belgium where we've heard they really
love American musical styles, but haven't heard much Cajun music
yet.
Super Sidemen...
Steve recently laid down some vocal tracks for an upcoming Jimmy
Breaux album, to be released on La Louisiane, while Peter, on
bass, helped out Jo El Sonnier for his upcoming Rounder Records
release.
Times of Acadiana Music Awards...
Thanks for your votes! We got five awards in the Cajun category,
including best band, best accordionist, best male vocalist, best
bassist, and best drummer!
Please Come Home for Christmas...
That is, to Grant Street Dance Hall in Lafayette, Friday December
22nd where the Playboys will be sharing the bill with Terrence
Simien.
Speaking of Christmas...
Check out the Mamou Playboutique-the easiest way to give a great
gift this holiday season. If you act quickly, your order can be
filled in time for Christmas. Playboys part of sampler CD...Check
out the fall issue of The Leak, a CD magazine that features in
the fall issue the Greely/Riley composition on our new album "Je
m'en fous pas mal," along with cuts from Nick Lowe, Rusted
Root and others. Ed McKeon adds a great write-up too!
Playboys' Web Page nears completion...
Soon, the Playboys will be joining web-mania with our own site,
which will include photos, a biography, an itinerary, and a link
to Rounder Records Web Page. Email Peter at:Schwarzy@aol.com to
get the address when it comes out.
Steve Takes to the Skies...
At Polk City, Florida's Wings & Strings Festival in November,
Steve was treated to a flight in a vintage aircraft (a WWII German
single-engine), and the boys enjoyed a personal tour of the Fantasy
of Flight Attraction by Kermit Weeks. Check it out sometime. Great
festival and thanks for the hospitality Kermit and Mitch!
Thanks...
to Evelina Broussard for helping us get the mailing list and newletter
started. She enters all the names in the computer and gets the
labels printed out (she also cooks a great catfish courtbouillon).
And Finally,
is Dugas Retiring?
Kevin, our drummer since 1992, had recently decided to retire
from the band. Recently married and this year the proud father
of daughter Kayla, Kevin had good reasons to give up the hectic
road schedule. But, by finding a fill-in drummer for the January
Europe Tour, he agreed to stay on. So, thanks to Tracy Broussard
for filling in for Kevin in Europe, and we'll see Kevin back in
the band in February. Tracy is the recent winner of the Best Country
Drummer title from the Times of Acadiana Poll for his work with
City Limits. We look forward to working with him overseas, mixing
his style with ours. Who knows what we'll come up with!
-Sincerely,
The Mamou Playboys
