Bayou Ruler!
Our new record, titled after a song written by C.C. Adcock and
Jimmy Macdonell, is just about ready! The official release date
is June 9th, but we're now accepting advance orders. We will start
shipping copies in late May. So order yours now. Those of you
who have heard our show in recent months will recognize many of
the songs. However, the production work of C. C. and Tarka Cordell
transforms the music far beyond anything we're doing on-stage.
It is in a word "astonishing," or as C.C. would say,
"It's TOUGH!" Recorded and mixed in four different studios
in California and Louisiana over a four month period, it even
includes two versions of one song, the original in French and
a re-mix in English which Rounder Records will release to a nationwide
network of radio stations for airplay. It's called "Laisse-moi
conna”tre," or in English, "Let Me Know."
So, here's where we need your help. Come the middle of May, call
your local radio station and request it! Let's get some excitement
going for this record! We'll have a big record release party at
Mid City in New Orleans and Grant Street in Lafayette in June.
Be there!
New Wheels
We're now rolling in a brand new conversion van! We've got the
TV and VCR and reclining seats and a CD player. But of course
on the maiden voyage up to North Carolina one of the windows just
fell out. So much for a trouble-free new vehicle, eh? But, luckily
we have a "MacGyver" in the band. In no time Jimmy fitted
us up with a new window, albeit plexiglass. Steve's reaction?
"Why isn't it tinted?" So, we beat him up and shaved
his head. Just kidding. The window has been replaced and we're
back in style (and, yes it's tinted). We'll give you a tour of
the new rig at the next gig! In a related note, anyone interested
in a used Chevy Astro, with a colorful history of carrying Cajun
musicians? Web Site Remodeled Hopefully by the time you read this,
our web site re-design will be completed (http://harp.rounder.com/mamouplayboys.html).
Boisy Pitre has put a lot of work into it. Check out the animated
logo! Also, Rounder's Tour Schedule database has been re-vamped.
You can now search by city, state or venue for the latest gig
info. Snail Mail Newsletter Mystery Solved Remember, we only send
newsletters to those areas with upcoming gigs (unless you donate
$2 to be on the permanent list), in case you were wondering what
happened! Crawfish Festival Absence Why aren't we playing the
Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival this year? It was a hard decision,
but we've never been to Norway. Wish us luck! And, don't have
too much fun without us.
Playboys Record in California
November 15th we came off-stage in Lafayette and rushed to New
Orleans in time for a 6AM flight to big bad Los Angeles. With
the help of producers CC Adcock and Tarka Cordell, who had whipped
us into good shape, we spent the next eight days laying down tracks.
Since then we've been busy adding tracks and mixing the music,
and we're excited! We can't wait for everyone to hear what we've
come up with. Stay tuned. The record is set for a late Spring
release. CC also showed us around town. We jammed with the famous
Nervis Brothers (Eddie Baytos had 'em thinking we were stars!).
There was also some celebrity gawking, famous pizza joints, swing
music at the Derby Room, and jogging on the beach. Thanks Michael
and Karen Davis for putting up with us, or rather, putting us
up.
Attention Young Parents
A fan in Minneapolis has made an amazing discovery-a cure for
fussing infants. It seems that the only thing that settles her
child is our recordings. The music has a profound affect, aparently.
This could be the big break we're looking for! Try it, and let
us know the results.
